Summary
Factasive has no accounts or advertising and doesn’t track you across other apps or websites. It doesn’t collect your name, contacts or precise location, and your email address only reaches me if you subscribe on factasive.com. New facts, quizzes and Duels are loaded over the internet with your category, language and topic preferences, but nothing that identifies you.
Usage statistics
The App Store and Google Play versions send anonymous usage statistics, such as which features are used and whether a subscription is active. They’re linked to a random identifier created when the app is installed, not to you, your Apple or Google account or your advertising identifier. Your country is derived from your IP address, which isn’t stored with the statistics. Statistics are kept for three months and are never sold or used for advertising. The web app sends the same statistics, using a separate random identifier stored in your browser without an analytics cookie. It records sessions, facts opened and saved, quizzes, Duels and subscription screens. The identifier isn’t linked to your email, Factasive key or Stripe account. Clearing the website’s data removes it; another browser has its own identifier. Visits to the landing page aren’t included.
Daily Fact notifications
On iPhone, if you turn on Daily Fact notifications, the app sends a notification token, your language, time zone and preferred time so they can be delivered. So you aren’t notified about a Daily Fact you’ve already read on another device, it also sends, even with notifications off, a one-way hash derived from your iCloud account and the last Daily Fact you opened. On Android, notifications are scheduled on your phone.
Purchases
In the apps, subscriptions are handled by Apple and Google, and Factasive never receives your payment details. On Android, purchases are verified with Google Play and the purchase token isn’t stored. On iPhone, the app passes its random identifier to Apple when you subscribe, so Apple’s notices about that subscription, such as a trial starting or a payment, are added to the usage statistics. They don’t include your Apple account or payment details. To avoid counting a purchase twice, only a one-way hash of Apple’s transaction number is kept, for up to 400 days after the last notice.
On factasive.com, subscriptions are sold by Link, Stripe’s payment service, which acts as the seller and handles your payment details. Stripe shares your email address, country and subscription status with me, and I use them only to help you, for example to replace a lost Factasive key. Your Factasive key isn’t stored anywhere in readable form: your subscription at Stripe keeps only a one-way hash of it and random identifiers of the browsers using it, up to five.
The website
To protect factasive.com from automated abuse, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a visitor is a person, which can involve your IP address and browser details, and a cookie then remembers the check for 7 days. Your IP address is also used, without being stored, to limit the number of requests. If you subscribe, an encrypted cookie keeps your browser signed in for up to 180 days. For private testing, a browser’s analytics opt-out is stored locally without an expiry date, with a cookie renewed for one year when the app is used. The stored preference contains no visitor identifier. Removing the website’s data removes the preference. These cookies support the website or remember a requested privacy preference; they are not used for tracking.
Data on your devices
Your saved facts, settings and progress stay on your phone, or in your browser on the website. On iPhone, they sync between your devices through your iCloud account, which I can’t access.
Third parties
Factasive contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code. It relies on Cloudflare for hosting, statistics and bot protection (technical logs with IP addresses are kept for up to 7 days), OpenAI to write and translate content, Wikimedia Commons for photos, Stripe and Link for purchases on the website, Apple for the App Store, iCloud and notifications, and Google for Google Play. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple or Google may provide me with anonymous crash reports.
Your choices
You can turn notifications off in Factasive’s settings or your phone’s settings. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your phone, including its random identifiers. On the website, clearing its data in your browser removes your progress and saved facts, and you can cancel a subscription anytime in the website’s settings or at link.com.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with an updated date.
